Quick update.

Feels like I haven't posted in a while. I think it's interesting how the blogging comes and goes in little spurts sometimes.

The past week has been interesting. I've finally buckled down and done some hardcore job searching. Before it was like most of my job searches, a half-assed attempt hoping someone would just walk up to me and say, "Here's a job!"

That never happens. (At least not to me.)

I legal observed again for the In Defense of Animals demonstration against a fur store here in Portland. You can read about it at the Portland Independent Media Center -- here. There were two arrests, one we (the other LO and I) videotaped and the other we missed. The first individual was arrested for spitting on the sidewalk, the second, it turns out, was arrested for using chalk on the sidewalk too close to Nordstrom. It never ceases to amaze me the kinds of things that can be done to curtail activism.

Okay, I am about to be late to class so I better go.

Quickly though I would like to give a quick shout out to everyone's favorite vegan grocery store--FOOD FIGHT!--for all the traffic in the past few days. Their link to my Steven the Vegan post last Tuesday brought people from all over the world. So go visit them, thanks.

Flowers.

AssortedtulipshandsMost of you know that I try to spend consciously, meaning I try to shop locally, or regionally and/or organically, green, etc. So because the floral industry is incredibly detrimental to the environment, for my Valentine (g/f, significant other, partner) I opted to go to OrganicBouquet.com. Now, because she's coming to Portland next week (not soon enough) I sent them early so she could fully enjoy them (if I'm not mistaken they are guaranteed for a week). I have not seen them, so I cannot attest to how they look or anything on that end, but as far as purchasing--OB.com is awesome. They are slightly more expensive than conventional flowers, which is a small price to pay for buying with a clean conscience. And when I had a problem with the order I sent them an email, they responded within the hour having looked into, and addressed my problem. So, for your Valentine or just your next flower purchase check out OrganicBouquet.com.

Oh, and I get to cross one more thing off my list.

No posts for a week, then three?!

I think my computer may have seen its last power up. I don't know what happened everything was going well, I was taking notes and such on it on Friday. I had made some changes, including downloading Firefox 1.5, Thunderbird, and Sunbird. It was a Mozilla Machine. I even posted some pics on my Flickr of the desktops, so Kenneth could take a look.

Then I tried to power up that afternoon and it looked like it wanted to come on, but then, just...didn't. I have been taking most of my notes by hand so far this semester so it's not a scholastic tragedy so far.

It does make it difficult to work from home. I have a lot of research and writing to do in the coming months and it will be a huge pain to have to do it ALL from school. As far as getting a new computer...well I don't think that's in the budget. I have priced one or two, and there are some great options. But I know I won't get a PC, and if I do, I'll probably just put Linux and such on it. I'm not 100% I could do it myself, but luckily, I'm people who know people.

So first things first, I am going to talk to some of those people about maybe, just maybe trying to figure out what's wrong with it, and what, if anything, can be done.

More later, too much work to be doing...
