Well, it looks like it may be time to mix it up around here again.
Seeing as how I'm done with law school now, I have to find a new name for this place.
Until I figure out what that name will be, here's a small story from my day to day. . .
As I may have discussed or not, I can't remember, I've been working as a public defender. I'm at one of the few (only) public defense firms in town that treats its Certified Law Students as actual attorneys. We have our own case load, and clients that we are responsible for. That said, I had a client last week charged with a relatively minor misdemeanor that I persuaded the District Attorney's Office to reduce to a violation--meaning my client faced only fines as opposed to fines and jail time.* My client's parents were there and he's not a bad kid, he just screwed up. I explain the situation to them and they're incredibly relieved. When we're done, the father comes up to me and says, "Thank you. I just want to shake your hand." Believe me, I don't do the job for the money or the glory, quite frankly because there isn't much of either. But so often my clients are repeat offenders and showing up to court is just a matter of course, and don't care one way or the other what happens. It was refreshing to see the impact of what we're able to do for someone from time to time.
i'll be expecting a full update of this weekend. with pictures and everything!
